Pocket Phrasebook Privacy Policy
Pocket Phrasebook is operated by FlowQA Ltd. This policy explains what information the app collects or processes, why it is used, and how you can contact us about privacy.
Information stored on your device
Your saved phrasebook is primarily stored locally on your device. This includes your selected languages, phrase groups, saved phrases, translations, pronunciation text, favourites, app preferences, language preferences, and onboarding or settings state.
The app also stores a random anonymous app identifier. It is generated by the app and is not based on your name, email address, Apple ID, or advertising identifier. We use it to group basic analytics events and optional feedback without requiring an account.
If you delete Pocket Phrasebook, locally stored app data is normally deleted from the device. Apple backups or iCloud restore may restore app data depending on your device and backup settings.
Information sent for app features
Pocket Phrasebook does not send your full saved phrasebook to FlowQA Ltd for analytics. Phrase content leaves your device only when needed for specific features.
When you request a translation, the app sends the phrase text, source language, target language, and relevant phrase context to the Pocket Phrasebook backend. This may include preferences such as speaker wording, regional or script choices, and traveller tone. We use Google Cloud Translation to process translations. Translation request data or cached translation results may be retained temporarily so repeated requests work faster and the service can operate reliably.
When you play server-generated speech, the app sends the translated text to speak, the language, selected voice preference, and playback pace to the Pocket Phrasebook backend. We use Google Cloud Text-to-Speech to generate speech. Speech request data or cached speech results may be retained temporarily for service operation. If server-generated speech is unavailable, the app may use Apple's on-device speech synthesis instead.
Technical request information, such as request time, endpoint, status, and IP address, may also be processed by our backend or hosting provider for operation, debugging, abuse prevention, and security.
Analytics and feedback
Pocket Phrasebook collects limited analytics through the Pocket Phrasebook backend. Analytics can include an event name, the anonymous app identifier, app or build version, broad usage counts, selected language information, feature actions, feedback source, and whether Pocket Phrasebook Pro is active. We use analytics to understand whether the app is working, which limits are reached, and which launch features need improvement.
Feedback is optional. If you send feedback, the app sends your feedback type, message, anonymous app identifier, app version, build number, broad app usage counts, selected language, and where in the app the feedback was sent from.
If you report a specific phrase or translation, the feedback also includes the relevant phrase text, current translation, pronunciation text, and phrase ID so FlowQA Ltd can investigate the issue. Please avoid including private personal details in phrases or feedback messages.
Purchases
Pocket Phrasebook Pro is offered as an optional App Store subscription. Purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and payment details are handled by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. FlowQA Ltd does not receive your full payment card details. The app uses StoreKit transaction information on the device to check whether Pocket Phrasebook Pro is active.
Third-party processors
- Google Cloud Translation and Google Cloud Text-to-Speech for translation and speech features.
- Render to host the Pocket Phrasebook backend.
- Apple App Store and StoreKit for subscriptions and purchase processing.
- Apple on-device speech synthesis when server-generated speech is unavailable.
Pocket Phrasebook does not use your information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Data retention and deletion
Locally stored phrasebook data remains on your device until you edit it, clear it in the app, delete the app, or restore device data from a backup.
Translation and speech request data or cached results may be retained temporarily for service operation, generally for up to 30 days. Operational cleanup may not remove expired records immediately.
Feedback and analytics records do not currently have a fixed automatic deletion period. FlowQA Ltd keeps them only as needed to provide support, understand app quality, and operate the service. Technical server and hosting logs are kept for operational, abuse-prevention, debugging, and security needs.
You can request deletion of feedback or other server-side records by emailing support@flowqa.com. Because Pocket Phrasebook does not require an account, FlowQA Ltd may need information that helps locate the relevant records, such as approximate submission dates, feedback text, or the anonymous app identifier if available.
Security
Pocket Phrasebook uses HTTPS for communication between the app and the Pocket Phrasebook backend. Access to operational data is limited to service operation and support needs. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but FlowQA Ltd takes reasonable steps to protect the data processed by the app and backend.

Changes to this policy
FlowQA Ltd may update this policy when Pocket Phrasebook changes or when legal, operational, or App Store requirements change. The "Last updated" date above shows when the policy was last changed.
